I wasn’t really a fan of Kevin Smith’s previous feature, “Tusk”, which started strong, but ultimately was a tad too absurd for me. With its spin-off “Yoga Hosers”, however, he serves up a funny and witty comedy that proved to be very entertaining.
Its biggest asset are its two lead actresses, Lily-Rose Depp (who really looks exactly like you’d expect the child of Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp to look like) and Harley Quinn Smith. Not just because of their individual performances – which both were really good – but especially because of their exceptional on-screen chemistry. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they are BFFs in real life too, and just watching them together is a blast. And they’re really great singers too! Also, kudos for the glorious idea of the “Brazis”. There were a couple of great cameos (even though I’m pretty sure I didn’t get all of them) and very funny moments (for example, the Arnold Schwarzenegger-impression – unsurprisingly – had the [Austrian] slash-audience in stitches) as well as a couple of neat ideas. However, I once again didn’t have much use for Lapointe, the impersonator-joke (as good as some of those impressions might have been) went on for far too long, and I really do believe that it’s high time for Kevin Smith to make his peace with critics, because it really starts to get dull, if not pathetic. Overall, though, I had a very good time with it, and am already looking forward to the Colleens’ next adventure.
